Disney World is a place where a lot of conflicting ideas envelop you. It’s one of the most crowded destinations on Earth. And yet introverts can find inspiration and comfort in certain indelible, hidden spots, each with its own soundtracks and scents.

It’s one of the most commercial places you could ever expose your credit card to, but it’s also built on a foundation of pure, childlike creativity. This innovative backbone is something that Type B personalities immediately pick up on.

You can get caught up in the attractions and snacks, but those of us who like to examine our lives through journaling will find opportunities to capture a few inspiring ideas.

Documenting our thoughts while in a theme park is also useful practice for when we need to journal at home in less than calm conditions.

Finding Disney World Writing Prompts and Bringing Them Home

While it’s hard to explain why, seasoned journalers know that setting can absolutely seep into our writing. No matter your topic, where you write often infuses your poetry or prose with unexpected patina and pathos.

The Walt Disney World parks offer a lot of distractions and pull us out of touch with ourselves. It may seem impossible to focus enough to develop a thought, but that’s exactly why we journal. To stay focused and to explore our out-of-control feelings.

Sometimes, putting pen to page can ground us and slow things down so we don’t rush through the favorite lands of our favorite parks.

Take out your journal in that hour-long wait for a roller coaster. Some of those ride queues are lavishly themed, and the background music often evokes powerful, imaginative concepts.

How does a mental connection to the stream of random people walking by your restaurant seat help unlock your inner muse?

Journaling at Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom seems like the most distracting place on Earth to try to get words down on the page. But there are ports in the storm of roaming crowds and disillusioned children.

You might bring a blanket and plop down in the hub of green grass in front of the castle to draw on the iconic views. You could scribble some notes while enjoying a counter-service meal in the upper seating level of Columbia Harbor House or in a back corner of Pecos Bills.

The People-mover in Tomorrow Land is a gentle ride with lots of Walt’s ideas for the future, that now stand as a kitschy view of the past. Draw from those alternate views of history and humanity’s bright future.

My bucket list wish is to lead a journaling mega-session in one of Space Mountain’s exit “star tunnels.” Great, inscrutable galactic music in the background and the infinity of stars and colorful smudges of novae behind you. Maybe we could all bring sleeping bags and spend the night.

Journaling at Epcot

Epcot is comprised of two different sections meaning there’s double the inspiration. One side is edu-tainment-tastical and the other side, a journey through the cultures and lands on our Earth.

You can sit in the Land Pavilion and let your thoughts drift up to the ceiling decor. The Soarin’ queue, with its thematic music, could offer enough light to scribble a few secrets.

Those benches and viewing ports in the Living Seas always inspire me with that feeling of being under the surface of Epcot. The slow wheel of fish above and rays below. Perhaps a manatee has a courageous tale of recovery to tell.

The whale songs and the mood lighting merge for journaling bliss. Plenty of benches to unpack your mind on.

You can try to unearth your muse in a garden in one of the beautiful country dioramas. Sniff the air in the Tea Garden in the England pavilion. Sit and let the memories those scents unlock flow onto your pages. China and Japan also feature water and greenery that can slow your thoughts on a busy day.

Journaling at Animal Kingdom

Animal Kingdom helps ground you in nature after your sci-fi and fantasy adventures in other parks. It’s a place of incredible vistas and dense jungle. A few real animals and a few animatronic ones.

One spot that’s not hard to find, The Nomad Lounge is practically a paradise for journalers. Plenty of wicker and cushions inside and out for relaxing and putting pen to pad.

The nooks and crannies of an alien paradise in Pandora might also inspire you. Grab some cheeseburger bao buns or a protein bowl in the canteen and notice the details overhead, then trap a few thoughts on the page before rushing off to experience the land of the Na’vi.

The prayer flags from Tibet and ornate, chained doors near the Yeti’s domain are enough to get anyone pondering the meaning of life. Perhaps sending them looking for things “Overheard on a Mountaintop.”

Consider what you’ve got locked away behind a chained door in your consciousness. What would happen if you opened it up? Go ahead and unlock it in the safe confines of your journal.

Journaling at Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios is an homage to an industry that churns out thousands of stories a year. The only story Hollywood hasn’t told is yours. Seek out a quiet spot in this busy little park. It is possible.

The Tower of Terror has one of the most authentic queues in all the parks. The warped old tunes, the cobwebs, the dust. Beware what this setting unleashes across your pages. Write so long in a place like this and your bound to cross over into the Twilight Zone.

One of my favorite spots in all the parks. The Baseline Taphouse. It’s a respite from a hot day on the pavement. Great pretzels.

Great California beers. And a cozy little spot by the window to observe people who don’t know when to give their brains and their feet a break.

Journaling at Disney World Resorts and Disney Springs

The parks may not always offer you the most tranquil spots to transfer your ideas to the page, but at your resort, you could find the perfect quiet corner for an entry or two. The lobbies for these remarkably themed resorts feature amazing decor, relaxing scents, and ambient themes.

Tap into the energy at the Contemporary Resort. Query a stone god about life’s meaning in the Polynesian’s grand lobby. You don’t have to stay at an expensive resort to enjoy the solitude there.

Many Disney Resorts have a coffee shop or lounge that are quiet and cool. Try the European panache of the Rivera Hotel with an iced latte featuring gourmet whipped cream to fuel your thoughts.

Disney Springs might be the perfect place to unwind after orienteering in the parks. Find your muse among the artifacts inside Jock Lindsey’s bar, or outside, while watching the car boats defy logic. Write furiously while waiting in line to buy cookie contentment at Gideon’s Bakehouse. Absorb all of the curios and mythology fueling their theming.

The Final Lines on Your Park Day

Disney World and Disney Land may not seem like ideal places to jot a thought down, but hey, consider it from Walt’s perspective. A man who placed such a premium on creativity must have found reason to transfer the wild landscapes in his head to a blank page.

He might’ve had feelings that he couldn’t verbalize until he wrote them out in a journal. He was just like you. A being with dreams that he wasn’t sure he could conjure into life. It always starts by exploring them in the safety of pen and pad.

Walt had an apartment in the Magic Kingdom. He provided benches and vistas backed with music. And if you don’t believe that Walt Disney World was designed with journalers in mind, check the gift shops. I found several merch spots that sell journals. Walt Disney must have planned this from the very beginning.

The parks will serve as good practice for your journaling hobby. You’ll write in chaos with worlds exploding in color and noise around you.

It’s the perfect experience to help you concentrate on the page when you arrive back home to do laundry, scream at your children, and face the challenges of real life.

You’ll carve out time to write despite family members creating distractions all around you. Because now you’ve journaled with Muppets and Baby Yodas sounding off right beside you. If you can journal in Disney World, you can journal anywhere, kinda like Broadway. End.
