We all have our favorite rides and restaurants in Disney World, but what spots call to you, even after your vacay is over? A certain bench. A hidden alcove in a resort. A particular queue and music.
What if you could schedule a few hours in this spot all to yourself for a few hours? Why not invite some friends? What about a sleepover? Get your journal ready and start jotting down ideas for this once-in-a-lifetime gathering.
Host some BFFs in sleeping bags lining the entry hallways of Soarin’? Lead a flute concert along the display cases in the rustic Expedition Everest queue! Take over the cliffs in an “It’s a Small World” country.
Journaling Prompt: What’s your dream Walt Disney World overnight field trip?

Write Up the Game Plan for Your Bucket List Disney Overnight Party
This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in your favorite location…only this time, it’s an extended stay that inspires you for longer than a fleeting, fast-pass ride.
And why not draw on the inspiration around you for a fun appreciation night? Give a talk on something you feel passionate about or host a summit. Have a journaling session among friends. Trade Pins. Host the most amazing book club meeting ever. Create some art. Knit all night! Theme it after your favorite Disney movie and have a summit with super fans. Whatever. The night is yours.

Write up your selections. I write about my preferred dream night below, spoiler alert: It’s an event branded for Disney World journaling. And who knows, Disney Castmembers may see our ideas for a perfect sleepover in Disney and grant our wishes! When you wish upon a star and all.
Consider these important decisions in your Journal Entry (or make your own rules):
- Pick your favorite three snacks from any park or resort to be served
- Pick your three favorite drinks to pour for your guests
- Fill out your menu by picking three of your favorite desserts from Walt Disney World.
- How does the normal background music of your magical location factor in? Loud or low?
- What bathrooms would guests have private access to?
- What’s the theme of your party? Poetry, crafting, D&D, board games, collectible card games, musical instruments, Disney Pin Trading…anything
- What band or artist plays an acoustic set for your party?
Bonus content:
- What character is on your sleeping bag? (What kind of Animal Kingdom Zuri Sweets Shop candy is hidden in your bag?)
- What stuffed animals do you hand out to comfort your guests? (Maybe some Star Wars plushies if you are spending the evening at Galaxy’s Edge)
- What’s the slogan on the t-shirts printed for this event?
My Overnight Disney World Stay – A Journaling Sleepover Event in Deep Space
Here’s my top secret plan for an overnight event in Disney World. Maybe it will help inspire your dream itinerary.
It’s a blueprint that’s been forming in my head for a long time, ever since I was star-struck in the third tunnel exit at Space Mountain. What if I could spend the night in there? The strange ambient tones. The kalidascope, backlit photos of deep space. The bizarre thoughts it might shake loose from my brain.

I want to host a journaling session with other deep thinkers. Venture into other exit tunnels and hug the RCA Space Dog. (Just kidding, I wouldn’t dare damage anything in the classic cue. We must be good guests!)
I’d invite my three blog followers…Disney fans and journalers. They’d have to be ready for a wild night of ink drying and some quiet reflection.
Gear: Everyone brings a pillow, a toothbrush, and a sleeping bag. My bag would have a picture of Chewbacca on it. Everyone gets a free Disney journal and one of my favorite journaling pens. Everyone is presented with a choice of a favorite free plushie doll based on classic Disney characters. Perhaps, some free t-shirts reading “I Journaled in Deep Space on Space Mountain” with a plug for Overheard Disney World Inspiration on the back.
Food: To press my luck, I would ask for some cheeseburger eggrolls for everyone. Add some Ropa Vieja Empanadas from the Food & Wine Festival. Some of those spicy chicken waffle sandwiches from Sleepy Hollow. Mickey rice-krispy treats, tigertails, and maybe some Gideon Cookies for dessert.

Music: The tunnel exit music would provide great atmosphere for thought-diving. But I’d also bring in a small-time musician named “The Edge” from U2 to strum his guitar while I led a journaling session. He could play some intros from some of their most famous hits. Riff, y’know, like rock stars do. I wouldn’t keep him long.
Bathrooms: I guess we’d be using the Rockettower Plaza Stage restrooms outside the entrance to Space Mountain. They’d be blocked off just for us while the park was still open.
Honorable Mentions for My Sleepover Locations: The Odyssey Center. The study in the Riviera Resort. Trader Sam’s. Jock Lindsey’s. The Nomad Lounge. A spot under the Monorail as it enters the Contemporary.
Why a Night in Disney World?
This type of field trip inspires me for a few reasons (even if it never comes true).
I’ve always been fascinated by liminal spaces. When Disney World is empty, there’s no better ambient, lonely space. Spots that are designed for mass occupation, but are suddenly empty. I feel these liminal spaces spark creativity because our minds instinctively try to fill them with characters, stories, music, and meaning.
It would be fun to harness that energy for whatever type of art or craft you dig. And after a night list this, you can count on having enough stored mental energy for the rest of the year. Inspiration for one hundred projects.
There’s also my belief in horcruxes. Leaving a part of yourself in places that you connect with. You can’t always be in the parks, but you can place a mental marker to return there in your imagination. This night will bond you to your spirit’s Walt Disney World residence.

It’s a portal to a place you can retreat to in hard times or draw from when you need the next big concept in your life. End

You can check out my theories on using Horcruxes in our lives on my other blog site. Voldemort used them for evil purposes, but we can use them to leave a part of ourselves in our favorite nav points. Overheard on a Mountaintop.
